Life of Valmiki:

Rishi Valmiki was considered to be a dacoit on a highway. His name formerly was Ratnakara. During his early life, he had used to rob people. There was a major change in his life when he met Narad Muni, who had been a Hindu messenger. He began following Lord Rama and spent several years meditating. One fine day his atonement has been pronounced positive by a divine speech. He was renamed Valmiki. This Sanskrit poet has a significant spiritual significance in Hinduism.

Maharshi Valmiki 's birth is sometimes termed Pragat Diwas. The day is celebrated with enthusiasm by Hindu devotees. Meetings and shobha yatras will be held on this day.
